Keyah is Home! January 2009
Keyah the lovely Karafuto (long coat) Akita girl is one of the few dogs to come to us with enough paperwork to be able to trace her path. She was bred by a breeder in New Mexico, sold to someone in Missouri, used by a Missouri puppy mill, and then handed off to a family who told the shelter the puppy miller told them they "could probably get another litter or two" out of her. Fortunately for Keyah, she felt she was special enough to be entitled to eat out of her own dish and the family said they put out a "big pan of food" for the dogs each day. Keyah "wouldn't share nice" and the shelter was told to come get her or they were going to shoot her because they couldn't afford to euthanize a dog. Nice. I hope their kids share cuz at that house it sounds like the penalties are rather stiff if you think you should get your own dish.
Then her luck turned because the shelter contacted Akita Rescue, and Keyah came to Blue Moon. In very short order, her new family found her, fell in love and adopted her and she has found love and a forever family in Colorado Springs. Good job Keyah! You ARE special and we are so happy for you.
