Budie about one year after adoption (09/08)
In November of 2007 I got a call from the shelter in Gillette WY. They
had two male Akitas who had been brought in and left by someone who
said she had found the pair outside of town (interestingly enough, they
recall this same lady periodically "finds" stray Akitas in poor
condition and leaves them at the shelter -- the Gillette area is pretty
desolete so this a bit peculiar but not illegal). Both dogs were very
skinny and terrified of people. I called my friend John up in Wyoming
and asked him to go look at the dogs, told him they had about 24 hours
before being euthanized and waited for him to call me back. I think he
must have left immediately and driven all night to get to Gillette.
The next day I got a call from John telling me one male had already
been adopted and that he had bailed out the other one and that the dog
was so terrified that he would wet himself if you even looked at him
and any loud voice was beyond frightening. He said he wanted to keep
Budie and the rest it history.
So that's Budie's story ... look at him now. Anybody who doesn't believe in miracles should do some rescue work.
