"The Akita Formerly Known as Gunner" (now rechristened "Koda") came
from the Springfield, MO shelter where he was pulled on the day before
he was scheduled to be euthanized. Koda was a pretty adolescent who
was about 20 pounds underweight. Koda is a patient, loving fellow who
singlehandedly helped me learn more than I ever wanted to know about
parasites. Once we finally got rid of all the freeloaders, he gained
weight and energy very quickly. What a sweet boy!

Minka's Story -- Springfield MO to Denver CO -- January 2008
Hattie (now rechristened "Minka") came from the Springfield, MO shelter
where she was pulled on the day before she was scheduled to be
euthanized. When she arrived in Denver, we had to lift her off the
transport. She was pitifully thin, had mange and was hobbling on three
legs, with her right hind leg dangling useless and beginning to atrophy
