Putting It Together - The Adoption Process

Blue Moon Akita Rescue

Adoption Process  Any individual interested in adopting one of our Akitas is asked to complete an adoption application The adoption process next includes a home visit. a conversation with your veterinarian and a reference check.

You can find a link to the application in the right margin on any of our pages.  Click on the link and you can either download the PDF file into a WORD document that you can complete, save and attach to an email addressed to karena@bluemoonakitarescue.com or if you have Adobe Editor, I believe you can download the PDF file, edit and e-mail it to me at karena@bluemoonakitarescue.com

The home visit is intended to show us that you have a secure fenced area of adequate size for your Akita and that your home is dog friendly.  We want to see a suitable shelter for your Akita to use if he is outside when you are not home and the weather turns bad.  We want to know that your Akita will be a part of your family, not a living lawn ornament in the back yard.  The Akita is happy when he is part of the family.  If you do not want a dog to be indoors/outdoors with you as part of your family, please do not contact us about one of our Akitas.

There is an adoption fee for each dog, which varies according to the dog's age, degree of training and any special needs.   We are happy to discuss with you the fee on any particular dog and the basis for that fee.  Your Akita will be in good health, spayed or neutered, and microchipped.  You will receive a health certificate and his vaccinations will be current and you will receive a copy of his vaccination records.

The adoption contract helps to ensure that your Akita will always be taken care of and loved.  When you adopt an Akita from Blue Moon the dog is guaranteed a place at Blue Moon in the event you can no longer keep him for any reason; however, we're happy to say that since 1973 we have only had four Akitas request a return to Blue Moon and only one of those was because the family felt the Akita was not the dog for them ... so we're pretty confident that our process works to everyone's benefit.
