Champ's Story
Champ has told you his story. Our experience with Champ is that he's a terrific dog. He's a high energy people pleaser and is open and happy. He learns quickly and does well with people and is cordial with other dogs. He's kenneled next to a male Akita and they play tug of war thru the fence with a rope toy. When approached by our Min Pin he wagged his tail and was cordial, although they have only met "thru the fence". Champ has been quick to crate train and sleeps quietly in a crate at night. He is already alerting to strangers at Blue Moon and is clear that he understands the Akita heritage of caring for his family. Champ is a pleasure to have around. We have begun obedience work with Champ and he is very receptive to training. The shelter folks tell us he is about 2 and starting to fill in nicely; I believe he's going to be a pretty good size guy as he is now about 70# and is thin (but a hearty eater who is making up for lost time). Champ is a terrific fellow who vocalizes at two times in two voices -- first if there is anything "different" going on in the yard, he wants everyone to be aware and we are working on the (good boy / out command to let him know when to stop) and at dinner time if he thinks there is the slightest chance that his dinner plate may not be filled in the proper rotation (typically I start at one end of the kennels and move down the rows, which is not necessarily his idea of the "proper" sequence). He is learning that he who barks at dinner time eats last.
