Sugar Bear - Forever an Orphan

Sugar Bear was a gentle, unassuming Akita girl who spent most of her life in rescue.  She came originally from New Orleans where her family reportedly left her at the vet's for grooming one day ... and never returned.  Attempts to locate the family failed and the vet placed her with a rescue in Texas.  After over a year in rescue boarding in Texas, she came to us.

I will never foreget the absolute joy on Sugar's face as she rolled happily in the sunshine.  Apparently being able to be outdoors was a whole new experience for her, and she savored every moment, from watching the birds in the trees to her fascination with other dogs.

Always a lady, Sugar was the perfect Akita -- except that she was born with a hereditary condition called renal dysplasia.  Dogs with renal dysplasia typically don't survive their first year.  Those that do can have a fairly normal but typically shortened lifespan.

Sugar waited in vain for a family who would love her for however much time she had, but while she was here she lived her life to the fullest.  She played ball, she loved having her own crate in the dog's bedroom and happily piled into her snuggle bed each night, always taking a milk bone with her to bed.  Sugar was the sweetest Akita girl we ever met, never crabby, never anything but a sweetheart, and nobody ever wanted to adopt her.

Sugar was with us for nearly two years before she crossed the Rainbow Bridge this summer.  A gentle soul who touched everyone she met.

BUDDY II

Blue Moon Akita Rescue
Buddy II wants a loving home .... with you?

Buddy II's Story

I 'm Buddy and I'm a big friendly guy who wonders what it would be like to have a home with people to love me and teach me stuff and take me for walks.   I'm from Cabool Missouri and my family just kept me on a chain and pretty much ignored me until the day they decided they didn't want a dog.  Then they took me to the shelter and left me -- that shelter still euthanizes unwanted animals using a gas chamber, and I don't mind telling you I was pretty worried about what would happen to me since nobody had ever cared before.

I am good with other dogs and I like well mannered children.  I'm not real sure about the whole cat thing, but I really always try to please people.  Can you come visit me?  I get so happy when I have visitors.

CHAMP

Blue Moon Akita Rescue
Champ is a smart, handsome young Akita

Champ's Story

I was named Chico but I never answered to that name and today they told me that my new name is CHAMP because there is nothing little about me (remember "chico" means little).  CHAMP!  I like that and already am responding because I LIKE IT!

So .. I'm CHAMP and I arrived at Blue Moon on 10/7/09 from the shelter in Pueblo, CO.  I'm a really cool guy and very handsome (hey, I call 'em as I see 'em) and I seriously enjoy my squeeki toys and playing ball.  I like a good run with a friend.  I am good with people and pretty good with other dogs, but when they gave me the "Cat Test" ... well that didn't go very well.  I'm pretty sure cats qualify as fast food.  I'm neutered and current on all shots and will be microchipped before I am adopted.  I am now used to sleeping in a crate at night and I kinda like having my own sleeping space and gettting a reward for going there.  I also like having my very own yard and I have already figured out I get a reward for going there in the morning.  I really like knowing what the rules are (and they have rules here) and it's nice to be with people who have a game plan.  I am working on my "obedience" stuff ... heck, I didn't even know how to walk on a leash 4 days ago ... and I'm real smart and like to please folks.  I'm looking for a family who wants a partner that's going to be their best buddy.  I've been kindly treated in life, but nobody ever taught me anything before and they let me roam (and that's how I ended up in the dog jail) and then they just told the shelter to "keep me."  So here I am.  I'd love a real home for the holidays, will it be with you?
